1884-1968
The current Vilonia United Methodist Church was established in 1884 as the Methodist Episcopal Church South. The first deed states that the church bought a plot of land for $25 from Mr. G. W. Harris and Mrs. M. E. Harris on November 4, 1885. On May 3, 1903 D. L. R. Greenlee and Amanda Greenlee donated a plot of land to the church. Then on July 2, 1912 Dr. J. B. Munn and his wife sold the church a plot of land adjoining its property for $25. In December 1936 the church bought more land with a house on it for $575 from J. V. Baker and B. M. Baker. The house was used as a parsonage until 1960 when it was sold to Mrs. Jennie Noblett Lybarger for $400 and moved to the Noblett property. In September 1949 the church purchased five adjoining lots from Mrs. Lula Harris for $100. That purchase completed 1.76 acres of land on the east side of Church St. and the south side of Highway 64, the site of the present Vilonia United Methodist Church. In 1976 the church bought an additional 1.15 acres with a small house for $12,500.
In 1939 the Methodist Episcopal Church, the Methodist Episcopal Church South, and the Protestant Methodist Church united. The name became the Vilonia Methodist Church. Then it was changed to Vilonia United Methodist Church in 1968.
